KICKBOXING

Hwa Rang Kwan features eight Kickboxing classes each week, taught by Head Instructor Master Steve and Instructors Gabriel Stuckey, Marie Davis and Jesse Yowell.

WHAT IS KICKBOXING?

Kickboxing is an informal modern martial art that combines the basics of boxing (hand techniques and movement) with the powerful kicks, knees and elbow strikes of Muay Thai.

Kickboxing techniques are practical and useful, classes make you fitter and stronger, and you'll burn hundreds of calories without even thinking about.

ARE THE CLASSES SUITABLE FOR BEGINNERS?

Our program includes four Beginners Kickboxing classes each week, all taught by our Head Instructor Master Steve, and beginners receive detailed instruction on the correct mechanics of each of the basic punching and kicking techniques.

First-time students are recommended to come to our Monday and Wednesday Beginners Kickboxing classes, as an Assistant Instructor is available during each of these classes to work with them.

HOW MANY CLASSES ARE THERE?

We offer eight classes classes per week, including Beginners Kickboxing every Monday and Wednesday at 7.30pm, and every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm.

All classes are open to students of all levels, although we recommend that beginners stick to Beginners Kickboxing for at least the first couple of months.

Kickboxing students are also encouraged to attend the Just For Kicks classes every Friday evening from 6.30pm - 7.00pm, and the daily 6.00pm Killer Thirty interval training classes

For more information, check out our Kickboxing Class Schedule.

DO YOU TEACH AEROBIC KICKBOXING?

No, it's not aerobic Kickboxing. You can expect to learn American Kickboxing and Muay Thai skills, with a heavy emphasis on boxing and hand techniques.

Expect plenty of power punching and kicking, plus some contact drills and sparring in the more advanced classes, all the while getting a highly enjoyable and very physical workout.

WHAT ARE KICKBOXING CLASSES LIKE?

A typical class consists of two rounds of jumping rope to warm up, followed by a round of shadow boxing, a round of plank, and a series of stretches. We often do calisthenics and heavy bag work, then spend time on partner drills, which may involve using focus mitts, Thai pads and/or kicking shields. We usually finish with more calisthenics, abs and pushups. It's an amazing all-body workout, and a great way to spend an hour.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

An intro Kickboxing costs just $15.00, and that includes a free pair of hand wraps.

If you would like to sign up for a membership, Kickboxing costs between $105.00 and $160.00 per month (call or email for more details). With all of our memberships you can attend as many classes each week as you wish, including Killer Thirty and Boot Camp, and can also use the gym facilities whenever we are open.

Note also that we do not charge any additional sign-up fees!

WHAT ARE YOUR FACILITIES LIKE?

Spectacular! We have a beautiful 4800 sq ft warehouse in San Francisco's SOMA neighborhood, only five blocks south of the Market St/4th Street intersection. The main floor has a 1500 sq ft workout area equipped with new mats, and a wall of full-length mirrors. Upstairs we have a second huge gym, approximately 1200 sq ft, which we primarily use for our Kickboxing classes, and a third small mat of just over 500 sq ft. We have two restrooms and a shower.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

You should wear sweats or shorts, and a tee shirt or vest. We always work out barefoot. To be fully equipped, you will need hand wraps, gloves, a jump rope, and a bottle of water - all of which we offer for sale.
