CHILDREN'S TAEKWONDO

Hwa Rang Kwan features classes for children age three and above. Three and four year olds attend our Pee Wee classes; children between four and six attend our Tiger Tots classes; and children age seven and above attend our four Children's Taekwondo classes, taught by Deputy Head Instructor Micah Ehler.

All children's classes are open to all belt levels, but instructors ensure that each student receives personal attention and that exercises are tailored to the individual child's needs and abilities.

WHAT IS CHILDREN'S TAEKWONDO?

Taekwondo means Foot Fist Way, or The Way of Foot and Fist Fighting. It is a traditional Korean martial art that emphasizes DISCIPLINE, RESPECT, and PERSONAL GROWTH, and it is famed for its fast and powerful kicks. Children learn the same basic curriculum as adults, and develop both their physical attributes (balance, co-ordination, flexibility, strength) and their life skills (courage, honesty, integrity, and the ability to work with other children and pass on their skills to younger students).

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Children’s Taekwondo costs $150.00 per month for a year for unlimited classes, or $175.00 per month for a month-to-month agreement. If you choose to pay for the whole year in advance there is a discount of $140.00 ($1680.00).

WHEN ARE CLASSES HELD?

We have four Children's Taekwondo classes each week: on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 4.45pm - 6.00pm, and on Saturday mornings from 11.30am - 12.30pm; and two Children's Advanced Taekwondo classes, on Tuesday and Thursdays from 5:00pm - 6:00pm. We also have three Tiger Tots classes, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5.15pm - 6.00pm. For more information, check out our Children's Class Schedule.

HOW WILL MY CHILD BENEFIT?

Above and beyond everything else, studying at Hwa Rang Kwan will improve your child's DISCIPLINE and RESPECT. These are the two pillars of traditional martial arts, and they are very strongly emphasized at our school. At the same time, with regular attendance you can also expect to see better fitness, flexibility, balance, coordination, and concentration. As your child progresses, he or she will also become noticeably more self confident.

IS EXPERIENCE NECESSARY?

No, absolutely not! Most new students take our Two Day Basic Training. This consists of two private one-on-one introductory classes, each around 45 minutes in length, with one of our instructors. Basic training is designed to ease your child into our regular classes, with a rudimentary understanding of our system and the philosophy behind it. The cost of basic training is $50.00, and it is scheduled by appointment.

HOW OFTEN CAN MY CHILD TRAIN?

We have four Children's Taekwondo classes each week, and ideally, children should attend at least two of the four classes offered each and every week. Quite simply, the more classes they attend, the better they get!

WHAT ARE YOUR FACILITIES LIKE?

Spectacular! We have a beautiful 4800 sq ft warehouse in San Francisco's SOMA neighborhood, only five blocks south of the Market St/4th Street intersection. The main floor has a 1500 sq ft workout area equipped with new mats, and a wall of full-length mirrors. Upstairs we have a second huge gym, approximately 1200 sq ft, which we primarily use for our Kickboxing classes, and a third small mat of just over 500 sq ft. We have three restrooms and two showers.

HOW DO I GET MY CHILD STARTED?

Make an appointment to bring him or her in for a tour of our school. Head Instructor Master Steve Rapport or his assistant Deputy Head Instructor Micah Ehler will show you around, explain the program in more detail, answer any questions you have, and outline the cost involved.
